The Maine Tenant Screening Forms can provide federal searches for serious offenses such as terrorism or sex offenses. It is imperative for landlords to realize changes made by the Maine 125th Legislature, regarding sex offenders residing in the State of Maine. Specifically the new laws increase the distance in which a sex offender may not reside “that may be set by municipal ordinance.” Landlords must be always mindful that “Sec. 1. 30-A MRSA §3014, sub-§2, ¶B, as reallocated by RR 2009, c. 1, §21, is amended to read:
B. A municipality may prohibit residence by a sex offender up to a maximum distance of (formerly 750) 2,500 feet surrounding the real property comprising a public or private elementary, middle or secondary school or up to a maximum distance of (formerly 750) 2,500 feet surrounding the real property comprising a municipally owned property where children are the primary users.”
Save yourself from the potential serious issues and expensive costs related to problem tenants by thoroughly screening each applicant with the proper Maine Tenant Screening Forms. You will also receive a free credit report with your selected package.
