AAOA Rental Housing Conference a Hit for In-Person and Livestreaming Attendees
The recent 2024 AAOA Rental Housing Conference was enjoyed by thousands of people in person and via livestreaming. Offering seminars, more than 20 vendor displays, valuable networking opportunities and complimentary lunch, the all-day event was held at The Reef on the Water in Long Beach, CA.
Throughout the day, attendees were able to meet fellow landlords, property managers and vendors while they got the latest on the hottest topics in the rental industry and how they impact their financial future.
LeShan S. from Tarzana, CA, was there with his brother, Marcus, who flew in from Phoenix, AZ, for the Conference. They co-own property in the Los Angeles area and welcomed the opportunity to meet other landlords to compare notes on advertising their vacancies and how to handle common tenant problems.
“Landlording is a solitary occupation,” noted LeShan. “You don’t get to network with others in your same situation. It’s been fun comparing experiences with other people who do what we do.”
After coffee, pastries and networking, attendees learned from experts on the following topics:
- Deferring Taxes With or Without a 1031 Exchange
- How to Combat the Multifamily Insurance Crisis
- CA Evictions: Common Pitfalls and How to Avoid them
- Squatter Prevention and Tips from the Squatter Hunter
- Complying with California’s Balcony Laws
- Sustainability and Revenue in Multifamily
- A Multifamily State of The Industry Roundtable

Attendees got answers to their questions during the interactive Q&A sessions with top attorneys, tax experts, CEOs, and more.
Ann H., a property owner from Torrance, CA, was particularly impressed by the Squatter Hunter. “Not only did he give us valuable information on how to get a squatter out of a rental property, he was very enjoyable to learn from!”
Designed to offer landlords, property managers and real estate investors the knowledge they need to stay ahead in today’s market, the Conference was presented by Diamond Sponsor LiftMaster powered by myQ.
“We were excited to engage with AAOA conference attendees and to show them how they can save time, simplify their workflow and enhance their property’s security with my Q Community,” said Gordon Burns, LiftMaster’s new business sales manager. “LiftMaster shared how myQ Community cloud access control, mobile credentials and keyless entry can streamline secure access for multifamily properties of all types and sizes.”
In-person attendees enjoyed visiting the vendor booths to meet with representatives from Chase Morgan Stanley, MasterCard, Liberty Mutual, Azibo, Doorspot, Rodeo Lending and Barth Calderon, LLP. Also on hand were such vendors as InsuranceHub, Dr Balcony, ShowMojo, Livable and Moonrock. Rentometer, SV Consultants, Syndication Attorneys PLLC and Kimball, Tirey, St. John, LLP, were also represented.
“I really enjoyed visiting the vendor booths,” said Tom R. of Escondido, CA. “I had so many questions for them and everyone took their time explaining their products to me. Dr Balcony was particularly helpful because I was not clear on how the new law pertained to my building. I’m looking forward to attending again next year.”
